A diesel fuel tank explosion in Al Jurf industrial area in Ajman, on Sunday, resulted in the death of two people.
The police said three others were injured in the explosion.
Major General Sheikh Sultan Bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of Ajman Police, said: The operations room received a report at 11 am on Sunday stating that an explosion had occurred in a (diesel) tank in one of the processing unit of the Fuel Trading Company in Al Jurf Industrial.
Al-Nuaimi explained that the cause of the explosion was due to two workers doing welding work above one of the tanks.
The sparks from welding landed on the fuel inside the tank and caused the explosion, which resulted in the death of two workers of Asian nationality and the injury to 3 others of Asian nationality in the factory area. Fragments of the exploded tank cover were seen scattered over the area.
The Commander-in-Chief of Ajman Police stressed that the explosion was due to non-compliance with security and safety requirements and non-compliance with the necessary licenses from the Civil Defense to secure this type of facility that deals with fuel and petroleum derivatives.
