Dubai Police, for the second time, arrested a sports champion for drug trafficking after he had served 13 years in jail on the same charge.
The suspect was a sports champion with a record full of achievements and championships which made him a famous public figure.
He appeared in public as an athlete, but in secret he was a drug trafficker who tried to work secretly with other traffickers who he carefully selected.
He decided to be a drug trafficker and connived with other traffickers from a neighbouring country to smuggle drugs through sports supplies because he was a prestigious sports figure with a good reputation.
The suspect lured 3 young men who he tempted to work with him as promoters to get rich quickly. He reportedly instructed them to follow a healthy lifestyle and not to abuse drugs, so that his meetings with them would be safe.
The teams at Dubai Police conducted investigations and could identify the promoters, and after careful follow-up and monitoring, the identity of the main trafficker (the sports athlete) was identified.
Brigadier General Eid Thani Hareb, Director of the General Department for Drug Control at Dubai Police, said: “We are doing our best to hit drug traffickers and thwart their attempts to promote these toxins.”
