The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced a young man to 5 years in prison, to be followed by deportation for killing his girlfriend by stabbing her to death due to a dispute over the war in their two countries and the responsibility for its effects.
The incident dates back to last September, when the young man met the girl at her flat that is located on Al Wasl Street in Dubai, where she received him as usual.
However, their conversation abruptly developed about the war. Love turned into a quarrel and the argument ended with stabbing the girl to death by her boyfriend.
The latter reportedly gave her 10 fatal stabs, which led to her death on the spot, the Court heard.
He reported his crime to the police and confessed to committing it. He was referred to the Public Prosecution, and then to the Criminal Court in Dubai, which sentenced him to 5 years in prison, to be followed by deportation.
In interrogation, the accused admitted that he had killed his girlfriend, whom he dated a year before the incident via a social networking site. He justified his act by saying that the victim tried to kill him because of a dispute over a war in their homes.
“On the day of the incident, I phoned her and asked to meet her at her house, where she welcomed and received me, and while we were talking about public affairs, she got angry at talking about the war and conflict between their two countries.
She got angry at blaming her homeland for the conflict. She then entered the kitchen, brought a knife, hid it in her clothes, approached me, and tightened her grip on my neck,” the convict to told the authorities.
In beginning, the young man thought that his girlfriend was joking, but he noticed that she was trying to pull the knife from underneath her clothes. He was afraid that she would kill him especially that she was under the influence of alcoholic beverages.
He was able to free himself from her hand and then slapped her. The girl fainted and he then picked the knife and stabbed her with it several times, he told the police.
After moments of thinking and sitting next to his girlfriend’s dead body, he decided to take her phone and the knife, and went to his house in Palm Jumeirah, where he stayed for about an hour and decided to return to the scene of the crime. He then reported the incident to the police for fear of being prosecuted.
The Dubai Public Prosecution charged the young man with premeditated murder, as he was determined and intended to kill his girlfriend, so he drew a knife that he had prepared in advance for this purpose. He stabbed her twice in the chest, intending to kill her.
She fell to the ground, and he continued stabbing her in separate places in the neck and the back. The victim sustain serious wounds, which led to her death on the spot as resulting of the fatal stabs, according to the anatomy report.
As the convict is under 21 years old, the Court commuted the penalty and ruled the aforementioned judgment.
