The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) in Abu Dhabi confirmed that the private parking spaces for delivery bikes are free. It provided 3,000 parking spaces, including 2,800 in Abu Dhabi and 200 in the city of Al Ain.
ITC, initially chose three locations for breaks for delivery bike drivers in Khalifa City in Abu Dhabi. These facilities provide delivery bike drivers with quiet air-conditioned places equipped with seats and mobile phone charging points, as well as drinking water. The exterior structures provide a shaded space for parking bicycles, in addition to an air pump for bikes’ tires. These started operations on June 22, 2023.
On the other hand, there are temporary rest places for cyclists. They are air-conditioned public buses with comfortable seats, also equipped with drinking water and charging points for mobile devices. You can find them in different areas in the city of Abu Dhabi, including Abu Dhabi Island, Khalifa City, Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Al Shahama, and Al Wathba, the ITC said.
The delivery bike drivers are subject to intensive training courses as a necessary requirement for obtaining a permit to practice delivery by bike. This aims at raising the levels of qualification and education.
Training will be annual and mandatory, ITC said, noting that it will supervise the conduct of tests and issuance of permits.
