The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced three convicts from a country in Latin America to six months in prison and fined them jointly Dhs200,000, for stealing the amount of fine from an Asian while walking out of a bank in Deira, Dubai. The convicts will be deported after serving the terms, the Court ruled.
The case goes back to last February, when an Asian driver reported to the police a theft of Dhs200,000 that was in his possession in a vehicle belonging to a company for which he works by anonymous persons who broke its windshield.
He explained that he went to the bank, cashed a cheque, received the money in cash in a paper envelope, drove his vehicle to his workplace in Nad Al Hamar area, and before his arrival he stopped at a refueling station in order to use the toilet. When he returned, an Arab man informed him that he had seen people breaking the windshield of the vehicle, stealing items from inside and fleeing the scene using another vehicle.
An investigation team collected evidence from the crime scene and checked footage of the surveillance cameras installed at the refueling station and the bank. The gangsters watched while monitoring the driver and followed him to the place where his vehicle stopped at the refueling station and stole the money. Accordingly, they were identified and located. The police arrested them at a hotel in Deira, the Court heard.
In interrogation, the convicts admitted that they monitored bank customers while they were going out and followed them with a vehicle rented by one of them. On the day of the incident, they monitored the driver with a large amount in his possession and tracked him, before stealing the amount and breaking the vehicle’s windshield, he added.
They divided up the loot and each of them remitted his share to his family in homeland, so the Court convicted them and ruled on its aforementioned ruling.
