The Egyptian government denied the rumour circulating through some media and social media platforms about imposing fees for receiving phone calls.
The Egyptian Cabinet issued a statement, in which it clarified that it is untrue for telecom companies to impose fees on phone call recipients of 10 piastres per minute, starting next August.
He explained that the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology confirmed that it did not issue any decisions to impose fees on the recipients of phone calls, stressing that the fees for the cost of any call are borne only by the caller without charging the receiver with any fees at all.
The statement stressed that the imposition of any new fees does not come unilaterally by the telecom companies, but rather requires notification and approval of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority as the government agency affiliated with the ministry, which is entrusted with taking the decision to impose any new fees related to the telecommunications sector.
The Council of Ministers appealed to the Egyptians not to be led by these rumours, which it described as lies, and the need to obtain information from reliable sources.
