Heavy rain and hailstones hit parts of the UAE as the maximum temperature reached close to 50°C on Thursday, the weather bureau said.
Some parts of the country has witnessed fog formation and fall of moderate to heavy rain with hailstones, as a result of the country being affected by an extension of a surface low-pressure system from the east, accompanied by an extension of weak upper air low-pressure system, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) reported.
Fog formed on Al Marfa’a, Qareen Al Aish, Tarif and Ghayathi in Al Dhafra region in Abu Dhabi, the NCM said.
It also said that moderate rain fell on Al Shuwaib in Al Ain city in Abu Dhabi, light to medium rain on Al Ruwaidah, Al Fayeh, Al Bahais, Mleiha, Kalba Ring Road, and heavy with hailstones on Al Madam and Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Street in Sharjah and other separate areas.
The NCM also indicated that the lowest temperature recorded in the country on Thursday was 25.8°C in Muzaira’a area in Al Dhafra region at 5:45 am, while the highest temperature recorded in the country was 49.7°C in Sweihan in Al Ain at 2:30 pm on the same day.
According to the expectations of the NCM, the temperatures expected on Friday will be in the range of 32-44°C in Abu Dhabi, 34-44°C in Dubai, 31-45°C in Sharjah, 33-42°C in Ajman, 30-41°C in Umm Al Quwain, 30-45°C in Ras Al Khaimah, 29-35°C in Fujairah, 33-46°C in Al Ain, 29-48°C in Liwa and 29-45°C in Al Ruwais.
The NCM has also indicated that the weather on Friday expected to be fair in general to partly cloudy at times. Low clouds will appear over the eastern coast by the morning, with a probability of some convective clouds formation by the afternoon eastward. It will humid by night and Saturday morning over some coastal areas with a probability of fog or mist formation. The winds will be light to moderate, southeasterly becoming northwesterly, freshening at times causing blowing dust during the daytime at a speed of 10 – 25 reaching 40 Km/hr. The sea will be slight in the Arabian Gulf and in the Sea of Oman.
