Two persons were killed, while two others sustained critical injuries as a pickup collided with a truck on Friday morning on Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road, in the direction towards Abu Dhabi. The collision was reportedly due to a failure on the part of the vehicles to maintain a safe distance.
According to Brigadier Juma Salem Bin Suwaidan, Acting Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, the Command and Control room received a report at 5am of a major traffic accident involving a pickup and a truck on Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road.
Brig. Bin Suwaidan explained that preliminary information indicated that the accident happened due to the pickup driver's failure to maintain a safe distance from the truck. "This led to a rear-end collision with the truck, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and causing severe injuries to two others. They were promptly transported to the hospital for immediate medical treatment," he added.
"Emergency teams, first responders, and traffic police patrols were immediately dispatched to the accident site to provide first aid and emergency medical service to the injured on site. They also facilitated the transfer of the severely injured to a hospital for further necessary treatment," Brig. Bin Suwaidan confirmed. Brig. Bin Suwaidan urged motorists to adhere to the legal speed limit and keep a safe distance from other vehicles.
He further warned against improper overtaking, sudden swerving, and being distracted while driving, emphasising the need to consistently abide by traffic laws and regulations to protect the lives of road users and properties.
