Billionaire Elon Musk is just notorious for his whimsical fancies. After he took over Twitter, he sacked thousands of employees, then said staff had to put in longer hours or quit. He even once walked into the social media giant’s headquarters carrying a kitchen sink.
“Entering Twitter HQ – let that sink in!” Musk tweeted. In June he threw down the gauntlet to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, to draw him to a mixed martial arts (MMA) ‘caged’ fight. Now, Musk has a Chinese doppelganger, Yilong Ma, who has been reported to be preparing himself for the duel with Zuckerberg in case Musk can’t or changes his mind at the last moment.
A video shows Ma wearing red boxing gloves and hammering a person with a box showing a printout of the Meta CEO on his head.
Musk and Zuckerberg have been egging each other into a mixed martial arts (MMA) cage match since June.
Now, Italy is ready to host the big bout. Musk said on Friday his planned cage fight with billionaire rival Mark Zuckerberg would be held at an "epic location" with an ancient Roman theme, according to Reuters.
At one point, Musk said Rome's ancient Colosseum would host the fight, but Italy ruled that out. However, he said the clash would nonetheless have an ancient Roman theme.
The encounter is for charity. A substantial amount, many million euros, is expected to be donated to two important Italian paediatric hospitals for strengthening facilities and scientific research to combat children's diseases.
But the fight has been trashed by some Italian politicians. "I find it simply mind-boggling that the Italian cultural heritage is being made available to two billionaires who want to indulge themselves like foolish teenagers," said Carlo Calenda, a former industry minister and head of Azione party.
"There are things that simply are not for sale. One of these is the dignity and history of a great nation," he said.
