Violating the speed limits prescribed in the emirate will incur fines ranging between Dhs300 and Dhs3,000 plus up to 23 black points, the Abu Dhabi Police said, calling on motorists to abide by safe driving rules and speed limits as shown on the roads to preserve their safety and that of road users.
They explained that a fine of Dhs300 will be imposed for exceeding the speed limit by up to 20 km/h, Dhs600 for exceeding the speed limit by up to 30 km/h, Dhs700 for exceeding the speed limit by up to 40 km/h and Dhs1,000 for exceeding the speed limit by up to 50 km/h.
A fine of Dhs1,500 and 6 black points will be imposed for exceeding the speed limit by up to 60 km/h, Dhs2,000 and 12 black points for exceeding the speed limit by up to 70 km/h and Dhs3,000 and 23 black points for exceeding the speed limit by up to 80 km/h, they said.
A fine of Dhs400, however, will be imposed for driving a vehicle at a speed less than the minimum speed prescribed for the road, they added. They urged motorists to abide by the traffic and safety laws, stressing that there is a great responsibility on the part of vehicle driver to avoid accidents and the resulting human losses.
The Abu Dhabi Police use smart systems and modern radars for controlling traffic and detecting traffic violations on the emirate’s roads including speeding and tailgating violations. On May 1, the Abu Dhabi Police started to impose fines for minimum speed violations on both express lanes of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road in both directions following the end of the warning period.
Thus, the maximum speed became 140 km/h and the minimum speed was 120 km/h on the first and second lanes from the left. A fine of Dhs400 was imposed on motorists and road users driving at less than 120 km/h.
