The UAE Ministry of Interior warned motorists of hefty fines for ignoring the “stop” sign when the students board or deboard the school buses.
The violators will be slapped a fine of Dhs1,000 and will incur 10 black points.
On Wednesday, the authorities in cooperation with schools, activated the radars that will automatically tracks motorists who violate rules by not stopping when the "stop" sign appears on the school bus.
The ministry warned motorists to stop when they see the “stop” signs of school buses or face a fine of Dhs1,000 and ten black points.
Also, school bus drivers who fail to open the stop sign while dropping off students will be slapped with an Dhs500 fine and six black points.
School buses in the UAE are equipped with radars to detect drivers who ignore "stop" signs.
The authorities noted that motorists are supposed to stop in both directions on a two-way road when the "stop" sign arm has been put out, at a distance of five metres from the school bus.
