The National Elections Committee (NEC) has approved the final list of candidates for the 2023 Federal National Council (FNC) elections.
The final list included 309 candidates in total across all emirates of the country. It has been announced following conclusion of the appeals period against FNC membership candidates in the preliminary list.
According to the final list, the number of candidates in Abu Dhabi is 118, in Dubai is 57, in Sharjah is 50, in Ajman is 21, in Ras Al Khaimah is 34, in Umm Al Quwain is 14, and in Fujairah is 15 candidates.
Abdulrahman Bin Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs and Chairman of the National Elections Committee, stressed the committee’s commitment to ensuring a successful electoral process that translates aspirations of the UAE leadership.
Al Owais further called on all candidates listed to abide by the guidelines and regulations of the Executive Instructions for the Federal National Council’s elections of 2023, to avoid any potential violation to the integrity of the electoral process.
The final list included 128 women showing 41 per cent of the total candidates, distributing to all emirates. It included 54 in Abu Dhabi, 27 in Dubai, 19 in Sharjah, 12 in Ajman, 5 in Ras Al Khaimah, 5 in Umm Al Quwain, and 6 in Fujairah.
The number of male candidates in the final list is (181), representing 59 per cent of the total candidates, distributed across the country as follows: (64) in the Abu Dhabi, (30) in Dubai, (31) in Sharjah, (9) in Ajman, (29) in Ras Al Khaimah, (9) in Umm Al Quwain, and (9) Fujairah.
The final list of candidates for the 2023 FNC’s elections included 36 candidates from young people between 25 to 35 years, representing 11.65 per cent of the total number, while the candidates over 36 years are 273 candidates, representing 88.35 per cent of the total number of candidates.
According to the Election campaign schedule, candidates will start their electoral campaigns on September 11, spanning 23 days. The deadline for candidate withdrawal is set for September 26, while September 27 and 28, will be for the submission of applications for candidates’ agents.
