The Dubai Court of Appeal upheld a judgment issued by the Criminal court sentencing an Asian and his girlfriend to five years in prison and fining them Dhs50,000 each, to be followed by deportation for consuming narcotics.
The convicts were arrested in possession of 38 grams of heroin and 83 grams of methamphetamine, as information forwarded to the Anti-Narcotics Department indicating that they supplied each other with narcotics.
In detail, the case dates back to last January, when the Anti-Narcotics Department at the Muraqqabat Police Station, received information indicating that an Asian man possesses and consumes narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
The information was verified through the investigations conducted by the competent authorities.
Accordingly, a permission was obtained from the Public Prosecution in Dubai to arrest the suspect, who was arrested in the company of the second suspect.
They were found in possession of 38 grams of heroin and 83 grams of methamphetamine, the Court heard.
The main suspect admitted that he had tasked his girlfriend (the other suspect), to buy him narcotics and he gave her some free, as they had consumed part of the drugs in his house before they were arrested there.
The second suspect also confessed to buying narcotics and consuming part of it while she was with the main accused.
According to the report of the criminal laboratory at Dubai Police, the suspects were found positive to narcotics. Consequently, the Court convicted the man and his girlfriend and issued the aforementioned verdict, which was upheld by the Court of Appeal.
