Two Emirati sisters, Maitha and Amna Muftah Mohammed Obaid Al Shamsi, 43 and 41, who had been honoured by Ras Al Khaimah Police, revealed the circumstances of rescuing four Asian women, who were injured in a horrific accident that occurred recently.
Maitha and Amna are from Al Raffa, Ras Al Khaimah. The first is a government employee (administrative), and a former employee at Ras Al Khaimah Police, while the second is a school bus supervisor.
Maitha Al Shamsi explained that while she was returning from Ras Al Khaimah airport with her sister, who was coming from abroad, they saw a speeding patrol heading to the same direction.
In beginning, she thought it could be a simple accident, until they reached one bridge, where they saw smoke emanating from under the bridge.
They felt that the situation was serious, and without hesitation, they tracked the source of smoke, but their saloon car was not designated to go on unpaved roads, Maitha added.
She added, “When we arrived, we saw injured people. I quickly got off the car and asked my sister to continue driving to the closest possible point to the accident site and the victims’ car. There, I found an Emirati woman crying from shock. Instantly, I started helping one of the injured people, who asked me for water to drink, but of course I refrained because it could be dangerous for her, as she might suffering from internal bleeding. I also saw another injured person in the accident with a number of men, trying to help and care for him until paramedics arrived.”
Maitha asked her sister to bring one of her garments from the car to cover the injured woman, while police patrols began to arrive, noting that they later discovered that there were injured men inside the car, and 3 other women outside it, after they were thrown out of the vehicle with two men.
This prompted her to leave her sister with the first after she provided her with the first aid, and went to the rest of the injured, providing them with the first aid until the ambulance arrived.
