The UAE Public Prosecution in a post on its social media platform X has warned against assaulting a public employee and has detailed the punishments applicable for this kind of crime.
"Anyone who uses force, violence or threats against a public employee or a person charged with public service with the intention of unjustly forcing them to perform an act of their job or to abstain from it, and this does not achieve his goal is punishable by imprisonment not less than six months," the statement on X said.
"If he achieves his goal the imprisonment will not be less than a year. If the crime was committed with premeditation or by more than one person, or if the perpetrator was carrying a visible weapon, or if the perpetrator of the crime hit the employee with the weapon than a heavier punishment will be meted out to the perpetrator. The perpetrator will be fined not less than Dhs100,000 or will be jailed for not less a year."
This is in accordance with Article 297 of Federal-Decree law No.31 of 2021 concerning the issuance of the penal code.
