The Dubai Criminal Court sent a GCC citizen for 3 years behind bars on charges of premeditatedly hitting a compatriot with his vehicle in Al Rashidiya area, after a verbal argument which had taken place between them in another area.
The accident resulted in the victim suffering quadriplegia, which was considered a permanent disability of 100%.
Details of the case date back to February 2023, when a GCC man filed a report stating that his father had been run over by a vehicle near his house.
The son added that while he was with his father near Mushrif Park in Dubai, they saw women inside a vehicle, so they approached the vehicle and asked them if they needed help as they were alone in the area.
The son added during interrogations that a person approached them in his vehicle and inquired about the reason for approaching the vehicle with the women inside, cursing his father and threatening them, so they left for their house.
On the way, the son added, they noticed that the suspect was following them in his vehicle, along with another person. He reportedly continued insulting and mocking them, so the father asked his son to enter the house, but the suspect hit his father and tried to hit him also, and then he fled the place, leaving his father with bleeding in his head and various parts of his body, so he informed the police and called an ambulance, which transported him to hospital.
The forensic lab report stated that the victim suffered several head bruises due to hitting a solid object, which were consistent with what was stated in the accident report, and requiring a treatment period of more than twenty days.
The forensic's report also stated that the victim suffered quadriplegia and severe spasticity, with a disability estimated at 100%, pointing out that his condition required physical therapy and intensive rehabilitation.
A policeman stated that he summoned the suspect who, during interrogations, denied hitting the victim and attempting to hit his son.
He also denied the charge of threatening them or even seeing the son before.
However, investigations and inferences from the scene of the accident proved the suspect’s involvement in the crime.
