The Dubai Criminal Court sent an Asian and his girlfriend behind bars for 10 years and fined each of them Dhs100,000 on charges of possessing and consuming narcotic substances in a room their friend rented in a hotel before he left the UAE.
They will be deported from the country after serving their sentences.
The details of the case date back to August 2022, when information was received by Dubai Police alerting that an Asian visitor was in possession of narcotic substances at his residence in a hotel in the Al Nahda area.
A policeman reported that investigations conducted by the General Department of Anti-Narcotics affirmed the accuracy of the information, and after obtaining the prosecution’s permission to search the place and arrest the visitor.
An investigation team raided the place and found that the visitor who had rented the room had left the UAE, and that another person and his girlfriend were inside the room in an abnormal condition.
When the room was searched, teams found various narcotic substances, and another quantity was found inside the vehicle of the suspect, so they were arrested.
On being interrogated, the suspect admitted that the narcotics seized in his possession were obtained from a visiting friend before he left the country.
The girlfriend admitted that she was the first suspect’s fiancée and that she had abused drugs inside the hotel before her arrest.
