Winter rain lashes parts of UAE, lowest temperature recorded at 9.4°C in Ras Al Khaimah

The UAE on Friday witnessed heavy rainfall due to extension of a surface air depression from the Red Sea with an extension of an air depression in the upper layers of the atmosphere, accompanied by an air current from the west and a cold air mass with the flow of clouds from the west.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) reported that the depression currently affecting the country would recede gradually late on Friday, while cumulus clouds formation would continue with chances of rain on the eastern coasts and northern regions. This weather situation is expected to end by Saturday evening, the NCM added.

The lowest temperature recorded in the country on Friday was 9.4°C at 6:45am in Jebel Jais, Ras Al Khaimah, according to the NCM.

It also said that the highest amount of rain recorded during this weather situation was in Dubai Expo area, where it touched 65.7 mm, followed by Arzana Island, north of Bani Yas in Abu Dhabi, by 51.2 mm.

Rain fell on Al Bahia and Al Rahba and on separate areas in the city of Abu Dhabi and its suburbs, on Nahil and Al Khazna in the city of Al Ain, on Ruwais and Sir Bani Yas Island in Al Dhafra region, on separate areas in Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain, on separate areas in Dubai, on Kalba and other areas in Sharjah and Ajman, the NCM said.

It also appealed to motorists to exercise caution while driving during rainfall, and to stay away surface run-offs and valleys flow.

In the same context, the Abu Dhabi Police called on drivers to be cautious due to rainy weather and to adhere to the variable speed limits shown on the signs and electronic signs.

The NCM has also expected that the weather on Saturday will be partly cloudy in general, with a chance of cumulus clouds over some northern, eastern, and coastal areas associated with rainfall.

It will be humid by night and Sunday morning over some coastal and inland areas with a probability of mist formation especially westward.

The winds will be light to moderate, northeasterly to northwesterly, and freshening at times at a speed of 15 – 25 reaching 40 km/h with clouds formation, blowing dust and sand. The sea will be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and in the Sea of Oman.

The Sunday’s weather is expected to be partly cloudy in general, with a chance of cumulus clouds formation might be associated with rainfall over some eastern areas.

It will be humid by night and Monday morning with a probability of mist formation over some inland areas. The winds will be light to moderate, northeasterly to northwesterly, and freshening at times, at a speed of 15 – 25 reaching 35 km/h.

The sea will be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and in the Sea of Oman.

The NCM has also expected that the Monday’s weather will be partly cloudy in general, with a chance of cumulus clouds formation over some eastern areas might be associated with rainfall. The winds will be light to moderate, northeasterly to southeasterly, and freshening at times, at a speed of 15 – 25 reaching 40 km/hr. The sea will be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and in the Sea of Oman.

Weather on Tuesday has been expected to be fair to partly cloudy in general and some clouds will appear might be cumulus clouds formation by afternoon over the mountain.

The winds will be light to moderate, northeasterly to southeasterly and freshening at times, blowing at a speed of 15 – 25 reaching 35 km/h. The sea will be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and in the Sea of Oman.
