His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, announced that Dr Hani Najm from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Head of the Department of Paediatric and Adult Cardiac Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Hospital in Ohio, US, won the Arab Great Minds award in the field of medicine.
Sheikh Mohammed tweeted on “X” platform: “We launched the “Great Arab Minds initiative a year ago, with the aim of honouring Arab scientists, celebrating Arab minds and motivating Arab innovators in sectors such as medicine, engineering, economics, literature, arts and others, just as the world celebrates scientists with the Nobel Prize, we celebrate Arab scientists with this award so that it will be the Arab Nobel Award.”
Sheikh Mohammed added: “Today we announce the first winner of the Arab Great Minds Award in the field of medicine, Dr Hani Najm from the KSA, Head of the Department of Adult and Paediatric Cardiac Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital in the United States. Dr Najm developed innovative and exceptional surgical practices, through 10,000 heart surgeries he performed. We wish the best to Dr Najm and to all the distinguished Arab doctors who contribute to the development of medical knowledge and to alleviating human pain, those who are always innovating and paving new ways for their successors.”
Sheikh Mohammed said that, for centuries, the Arab region has gifted the world with a great deal of knowledge, inventions and tools that have significantly contributed to advancing modern medicine and surgical know-how, noting that the region is continuing its efforts to develop the world's knowledge by supporting exceptional Arab talents and thinkers.
