A poverty-stricken man committed suicide after smashing heads of his wife and three daughters with a hammer in Pakistani city of Faisalabad, media reported on Saturday.
The horrible incident got revealed when some of Tahir`s relatives, who lived nearby, visited his house by chance and found him lying unconscious and his other family members dead. They immediately called police which shifted Tahir to the Allied Hospital, where he too expired after remaining under treatment for a few hours.
According to media reports, accused Tahir was under immense mental stress following the accidental death of his only son. He killed his wife and three daughters and attempted to commit suicide himself in 271-RB village in Faisalabad district of Punjab province. He was rushed to Allied Hospital Faisalabad but could not be saved.
According to police, the family members fell unconscious after eating something "poisonous” which Tahir offered to them last night. He then smashed wife Naheed’s head with a hammer’s blow. He then repeated the exercise with her three daughters —18-year-old Raeesa, 16-year-old Hibba and 12-year-old Zahra.
A heavy contingent of police has rushed to the spot and launched an investigation.
According to the police, a two page letter, purportedly written by Tahir, was found near the bodies in which he stated that he decided to kill himself and his four family members after he failed to return amounts totalling up to Rs265,000, he had borrowed from different people because of financial crisis.
In the letter Tahir wrote before committing the heinous crime, he said he was feeling cut off from the world after son’s death and due to his financial condition. "My brothers helped me a lot but it made no difference. I am killing my daughters because I can’t leave them looking to others,” he added.
