The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) reported that the month of December is the last month of the Fall season, as winter begins astronomically on the 23rd of December, noting that the maximum and minimum temperatures will decrease by 3 to 6 degrees, compared to November.
The NCM explained that the UAE is affected by the extension of the Siberian Ridge extending from the north, accompanied by northeasterly winds, which lead to a noticeable drop in temperatures during the night, especially in the interior and mountainous areas.
According to the NCM, the UAE is also affected during December by the passage of air depressions coming from the west, which results in the increasing clouds, with a chance for rains, which may sometimes be accompanied by thunder.
Humidity will increase, especially in the early morning, due to moderate air masses passing over the Gulf waters towards the UAE, leading to a chance for light and dense fog formation, the NCM noted.
The average temperature, according to climate statistics and historical records, ranges between 17.7 and 21.8°C, while the average maximum temperature is between 22 and 27°C and the average minimum temperature is between 13 and 17 °C, according to the NCM.
The highest temperature, 37.0 °C, was recorded in Sweihan in 2016, while the lowest temperature, -0.737.0 °C, was recorded on Jebel Jais in 2004, the NCM reported, indicating that the highest amount of rain recorded during December was 208.4 mm on Dhadna in 2006. The NCM expected Saturday’s weather to be partly cloudy, and cloudy at times in some eastern and western areas, with the possibility of rain falling. It will be humid at night and on Sunday morning, with the possibility of light fog formation in some inland areas, the NCM indicated.
It also reported that winds will be northwesterly, to northeasterly, light to moderate and active at times, with a speed of 10 to 20kph, amounting to 35 kph, and the waves will be light to moderate in the Arabian Gulf, and light in the Sea of Oman.
