The Al Ain Traffic Misdemeanor Court convicted three people of recklessly driving vehicles in a way that jeopardized road users and caused damage to public property. Ignoring the traffic signs and rules and the driving etiquette, the defendants caused a disturbing noise while driving their vehicles, which had no number plates in violation of the provisions of the Traffic Law.
The court ruled that the defendants be fined Dhs50,000 each for reckless driving, non-compliance with traffic rules and deliberate damage of public property and obligated them to perform community service for making a noise while driving and driving vehicles without number plates.
The court also ordered the defendants’ driving licences to be suspended for three months and their seized vehicles to be confiscated. This followed video clips that went viral on social media, showing the defendants driving their vehicles recklessly, causing damage to a public road and jeopardizing the people who happened to be there.
Accordingly, the competent authorities took measures to arrest the drivers in accordance with the established legal procedures and referred them to the Public Prosecution, which investigated the incident and ordered the defendants to be referred to the competent court.
