Dubai Appellate Court upheld the ruling of the Court of First Instance jailing an Asian and his girlfriend for 10 years and fined each of them Dhs100,000 on charges of possessing and abusing narcotic substances in a room rented by a friend in a hotel before that friend left the country.
They both will be deported after serving their sentences.
The details of the case date back to August 2023, when Dubai Police received information alerting that an Asian visitor had narcotics at his room in a hotel in Al Nahda area.
A policeman reported that the investigation teams at the General Directorate of Narcotics Control (GDNC) affirmed the accuracy of the information, and after obtaining the permission of the Public Prosecution in Dubai, the place was raided and searched to find that the visitor had left the country, but teams found another person and his girlfriend inside the room in an abnormal condition.
After searching the hotel room, the police found various narcotic substances and another quantity inside the vehicle of one of the suspects, who were consequently arrested.
On being interrogated, the first suspect confessed that he got the narcotics seized with him from his visiting friend before he left the country, while the second suspect confessed that she was the first’s fiancée and that she had abused drugs inside the hotel room before her arrest.
