Dubai Criminal Court sentenced a European woman to 10 years in jail, to be followed by deportation after serving her sentence, and fined her Dhs100,000, on charges of possessing and abusing various narcotic substances including cocaine.
The details date back to August 2023, when the General Department of Anti- Narcotics in Dubai Police received reliable information alerting that an Asian man (who was referred to the Federal Court) was abusing and promoting drugs at his residence in a hotel in Jumeirah area.
A policeman reported that an investigation team raided the place where the suspect resided and arrested him in a trap.
When searched, the team found narcotic substances in his possession and inside his residence.
The policeman added during the interrogations that he saw a woman in an abnormal condition in the company of the suspect, whom he suspected to be under the influence of narcotics or psychotropic substances, so she was detained. During that time, she willingly took out 4 transparent plastic wrappers containing a dark-coloured substance weighing 40 grammes containing hashish, which she said it was for consumption.
The suspect was taken to the General Department of Anti-Narcotics, where her urine sample was tested to be found positive for the use of hashish and cocaine.
On being interrogated, she confessed to possessing various narcotic substances and abusing cocaine before her arrest.
She added that she had obtained the narcotic substances from the Asian suspect referred to court, for free.
The court stated that the two crimes which the woman committed were considered as one crime and that it sentenced her for the first crime, according to Article No88 of Federal Decree Law No31 of 2021, regarding the amended Crimes and Penal Code.
