The security teams of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Sharjah Police in the Eastern Region were able to thwarting a bid to smuggle amount of stolen jewelry worth Dhs800,000 abroad through one of the land border crossings.
The operations room received a report from one of the gold shops in the city of Khorfakkan stating that the shop was robbed by a gang late in the night.
Instantly, a security team from the CID was rushed to the location of the reported shop, where it processed with the investigation into the incident to identify the perpetrators. Following the intensified search and investigation operations, the security team was able to identify the burglars in a few hours.
With the intensive efforts of the cops, the stolen gold was detected in a shipping container at one of the country's ports, before smuggling it abroad. Work is underway to arrest the burglars, the police said, adding that the case was referred to the Public Prosecution to take further legal action.
The Sharjah Police have called on owners of commercial establishments to secure their facilities with security control systems, stressing the need to cooperate with the security authorities, and not to hesitate to report anyone who tries to violate the rights of others or tampers with the stability of society via 999 in emergency cases.
