Basra Police in southern Iraq revealed a murder in which a married woman was killed. The killer tried to hide his crime with the help of his mother, who gave false testimony before the authorities, stating that the victim committed suicide by taking poison.
The official spokesman for the Basra Police Command, Colonel Aziz Hashim Al-Abadi, told media that a report had been received at Al-Farahidi Police Station stating that a woman had committed suicide by consuming poison, according to the victim’s husband and mother.
Al-Abadi added that after the autopsy, it was found that there were no chemicals or poisons, and the case was referred to the Crime Department immediately, which formed a specialized investigation team to determine the facts of the crime.
He continued: "As a result of professional work and through investigations, information gathering, and diligent follow-up, the circumstances of the crime were revealed and the perpetrator, who is the husband, was identified."
Al-Abadi explained that “the victim’s husband was the one who committed the murder by beating her to death with the help of his mother,” stressing that the killer husband was arrested in accordance with the provisions of Article 406 of the Penal Code, and his mother was arrested for giving false testimony, and legal measures were taken against them.
