Dubai Appellate Court upheld the Misdemeanour Court’s ruling fining an Asian woman Dhs50,000 for being convicted of employing a maid without a work permit and not adhering to the conditions for transferring sponsorship and correcting the stipulated legal conditions.
Dubai Criminal Court had previously convicted a maid, jailed her for 6 months, fined her Dhs35,000 and ordered her deportation after serving her sentence on charges of robbing her sponsor, working for someone other than her sponsor and illegally staying in the country.
The details of the case date back to March 2023, when an Asian woman, the “first suspect,” filed a report stating that she had been robbed by the “second suspect, the maid”, who employed her to work in her home without a work permit.
The first suspect reported that she discovered that bracelets and gold jewelry worth Dhs35,000 were stolen from an iron safe inside her room and upon checking the surveillance cameras, she found that the second suspect who had been working in her home for a month and left the house several days ago, entered her bedroom and stole jewelry from the safe and then expressed her unwillingness to continue working.
A policeman reported during interrogations that an investigation team located the maid who was arrested and by searching her bag, they found inside it one of the jewelry earrings which she had stolen from her employer’s house.
On being interrogated and faced by recordings of the surveillance cameras at her employer’s home, she confessed to her crime.
