The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an African to life in prison to be followed by deportation for premeditatedly killing his girlfriend in her house after she had demanded their relationship to be ended.
The case dated back to July 2022 when an African woman reported to the police that an assault took place inside an apartment where she lived in Al Barsha area.
The woman stated that she heard a call for help from the room of her neighbour with whom she shared a house. She tried to open the door to her room to help her but the door was tightly closed, she added.
The woman stated in the interrogations that she went to the balcony of the victim’s room, where she saw through the window of the room the accused stabbing her in the shoulder.
The defendant continued to stab the victim while she was imploring him to stop assaulting her and that she was still in love with him but the defendant continued to stab her, she said.
The woman returned to her room and reported what happened to the police.
A policeman stated in the interrogations that a team of detectives arrived in the scene of the report where they found the victim with blood everywhere around her.
After gathering inferences, the team managed to identify and arrest the defendant.
On interrogation, the defendant admitted that he had had a romantic relationship with the victim for a long time but they had some problems recently, adding that he tried to solve these problems but the victim insisted on breaking up with him.
On the day of the incident, he went to her house to talk to her but she refused and left to spend the night with one of her friends, he said. When she returned to her residence in the evening of the following day, he had already decided to assault her with a knife, he added.
