Dubai Criminal Court imprisoned two Arabs for 7 years and ordered their deportation from the country after serving their sentences.
The court also fined each of them Dhs200,000 for being convicted of bringing, possessing, and abusing 1,000 pills of psychotropic substances.
The details date back to December 2023, when an inspector at Dubai International Airport discovered 100 strips containing 1,000 psychotropic pills inside the bag of a visitor coming from his home country.
The inspector reported that he suspected the visitor's bag, and upon searching it, he found a large number of psychotropic pills inside it.
The suspect reported that he had received the seized items from a person in his home country to deliver to a compatriot residing in the country. The airport police were consequently informed of the incident.
A policeman testified during interrogations that the suspect confessed to bringing the narcotic pills to deliver them to another resident in another emirate. The policeman reportedly asked him to contact that person to receive the psychotropic pills near Naif Police Station in Dubai.
The policeman set a trap where the second suspect was caught red-handed while receiving the seized items.
Upon searching his residence in another emirate, 230 pills of psychotropic substances were found.
On being questioned, he confessed that he owned the narcotic substances with the aim of consuming them.
The criminal laboratory report proved that the seized items brought by the first suspect were 100 tapes containing 1,000 tablets of psychotropic substances weighing 180 grammes while 230 tablets of psychotropic substances weighing 41 grammes were found in the house of the second suspect.
