Sharjah Police are investigating the death of two workers as a result of partial collapse of the ceiling of a school under construction in Kalba City. Three other workers were injured in the incident.
Sharjah Police’s operations room received a report at 1:30 pm on Sunday that the ceiling of a school under construction in the industrial area in Kalba City partially collapsed.
According to the report, workers were injured and others were missing as a result of the incident.
Police patrols and national ambulance team rushed to the scene of the accident and began searching for injured workers under the rubble. The team managed to find three workers with moderate injuries but the search continued to find more survivors.
Initial investigations into the incident revealed that the collapse of the building where a number of Asian workers were present, coupled with the size of the concrete block prevented the missing workers from being found immediately.
Further search operations, however, led to the recovery of two workers who died on the spot due to their injuries. Their bodies were taken to Kalba Hospital.
Dedicated teams surrounded the site of the accident after ensuring it was completely evacuated and the incident file was transferred to the Kalba Comprehensive Police Station to summon those concerned with supervising the building and complete the necessary investigations.
