Dubai Police’s General Department of Traffic arrested a driver and impounded his car for driving recklessly on Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road at a speed exceeding 220 km/h, jeopardizing his life and the lives of road users.
According to Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of General Department of Traffic, while carrying out its duties on Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road early last Wednesday, a traffic patrol spotted a car driven by a young man at excessive speed. When the patrol tried to stop the car using signs and honks, the driver increased his speed to exceed 220 km/h.
After co-ordinating with other patrols to secure streets and stop the car, the patrol seized the car and arrested the driver, who was referred to the police station for further legal procedures against him, he said.
He explained that according to the provisions of Decree No.30 for 2023 regarding the impoundment of vehicles, the driver was slapped with a fine of Dhs50,000 for releasing his car.
Warning motorists against reckless driving on roads, Al Mazrouei explained that the law punishes anyone who drives in a manner that endangers his life or the lives of others or damage roads, adding that reckless drivers would be stopped and referred to the courts of law and their vehicles would be impounded.
He stressed that the police would not be lenient in confronting those who violate the regulations, calling on members of society to report any negative phenomena through the ‘Police Eye’ service available on the Dubai Police app on smartphones or call the ‘We Are All Police’ service on 901.
The police also shared a video of the motorist driving at high speed. The video was obtained from the motorist who while driving made the clip showing the speedometer at 220 km/h.
Dubai Police are calling upon parents to take a proactive role in addressing irresponsible traffic behaviour exhibited by some young individuals by being more vigilant and actively engaging in preventing irresponsible actions that could lead to severe consequences and harm lives and property.
