President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has directed the provision of an urgent relief package worth $30 million to displaced Lebanese citizens in the Syrian Arab Republic.
This initiative is part of the UAE's continued efforts to help the Lebanese people overcome current challenges, underscoring its firm commitment to providing support in difficult times.
Meanwhile, Lebanon's Caretaker Minister of Information Ziad Makary expressed the gratitude of the Lebanese government and people to the UAE, in appreciation of the great support provided amid the difficult circumstances Lebanon is facing due to the Israeli war.
In a statement to WAM during his visit to France, Makary praised the UAE's swift response as the first country to send humanitarian and medical assistance, which arrived at a critical time for Lebanon.
He underscored the significance of this support, describing it as a lifeline for a country grappling with severe shortages of medical supplies and essential goods.
Makari noted that the UAE has committed $100 million in aid and continues to send vital supplies that are greatly needed. "This is not just about aid; it's a profound expression of Arab unity," he stated.
Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), affirmed that the directives of President Sheikh Mohamed to launch a relief campaign for Lebanon is a testament to his commitment to humanitarian principles.
He noted that this also reflects the UAE's growing role in providing humanitarian and development aid to brotherly and friendly nations. Sheikh Hamdan emphasised that the "UAE Stands with Lebanon" campaign will enhance humanitarian response efforts for those affected by the current situation in Lebanon by providing essential needs, particularly medical supplies, food and shelter.
The "UAE Stands with Lebanon” campaign, kicking off on Tuesday, is yet another testament to the UAE's unwavering support for Lebanon. Both the leadership and people of the UAE have consistently stood by Lebanon, particularly during times of crisis over the past 50 years.
History records the UAE's honourable stances since 1974 in supporting the brotherly Lebanese people. The late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, granted Lebanon a sum of $150 million to finance the Litani project.
