The Ajman Police have determined 26 locations for the installation of electronic gates designated to monitor violations of seatbelt and phone use during driving in various streets of the emirate. This was revealed by Sheikh Major General Sultan Bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, the Commander-in-Chief of Ajman Police.
This initiative forms part of the smart surveillance system that was activated on October 1, Al Nuaimai added.
He explained that the Ajman Police General Command relies on an integrated security system to achieve the highest levels of traffic safety for drivers, passengers, and pedestrians. This system enhances the level of safety in accordance with traffic regulations and laws, thereby making the roads safer, he added.
He highlighted the Emirate of Ajman's noteworthy achievement, ranking second globally in the list of the ten safest cities in the world, after Abu Dhabi, the capital. This is according to the official Numbeo international report for the year 2023. Additionally, Ajman secured the top position within the country, with 98.5% of the emirate's residents indicating a high level of safety, as reported by the UAE Cabinet.
Furthermore, he stated that the system comprises the implementation of smart surveillance solutions equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) cameras to identify and deter the offenses of using mobile phones while driving and failing to fasten seat belts. He also emphasized the necessity for all drivers and road users in the emirate to adhere to the established traffic rules and regulations.
The Commander-in-Chief also pointed out that the objective of the smart system is to diminish occurrence of traffic accidents and to augment the safety of drivers and road users. He further noted that the utilisation of smart systems to register violations facilitates the delivery of optimal traffic safety and the avoidance of the adverse consequences associated with driving a vehicle with an expired license that has not been tested.
Al Nuaimi underscored the role of the smart system, which represents the latest technological advancement in the country, in enhancing traffic management, security, and community awareness. In addition, it will be used to to disseminate information through its display screens, citing its use in announcing national celebrations such as Union Day. Additionally, he highlighted the system's integrated fog sensing mechanism, which alerts drivers to reduce their speeds and enhance their focus and attention while driving their vehicles.
