At least seven university students were killed, while other 25 were injured in a horrific road accident that took place on Monday evening in Egypt.
A report was received by Egyptian authorities indicating that a bus transporting students from Galala University in the eastern governorate of Suez to Cairo had overturned, resulting in fatalities and injuries.
Dozens of ambulances were dispatched to transport the victims and injured to the medical facilities.
The bus was transporting students from the Faculty of Medicine of Galala University. They were reportedly returning to Cairo following the conclusion of their academic session, when it overturned on Galala Road.
In response to the incident, Dr Ismail El Hefnawy, director of the Suez Healthcare Authority, declared a state of emergency and summoned all medical personnel to provide treatment for the injured.
The relevant prosecuting authority was duly informed and assumed responsibility for the investigation.
In a preliminary count, the Ministry of Health reported that 25 individuals sustained injuries and seven fatalities resulted from the incident.
Dr Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health, directed the provision of ambulatory services and treatment for the injured.
Additionally, he instructed his deputy, Dr Mohamed El Tayeb, to proceed to the Suez Medical Complex to assess the health situation on the ground.
The Egyptian Ambulance Authority has dispatched 24 ambulances equipped for emergency response to the scene of the incident, and rescue operations are still underway.
