The Abu Dhabi Police General Command unveiled the "Autonomous Patrol of the Future" at GITEX World 2024 in collaboration with the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council in Abu Dhabi. This initiative is part of ADP's broader strategy to enhance safety, security, and road safety.
In a statement released by the Abu Dhabi Police, the rationale behind the introduction of this new patrol vehicle was described. It was explained that the patrol is intended for use in both residential and off-road areas. Furthermore, it was said that the autonomous driving capability, electric charging (vehicle-to-payload) and support for external charging of equipment and vehicles, and unmanned reconnaissance drones, carried in a drone box integrated into the patrol vehicle, will collectively enhance security coverage.
The patrol is designed to access remote and challenging areas, featuring autonomous off-road navigation capabilities that are highly efficient and well-suited to the topography of Abu Dhabi. The car is equipped with wireless communication capabilities, enabling direct communication with the patrol after takeoff. The latter is designed for flexibility and can accommodate up to six individuals with additional equipment.
As stated by the Abu Dhabi Police, the patrol is equipped with a digital cockpit that supports in-vehicle cloud computing, voice, data, and video storage. This technology enhances the user experience and increases safety. The prospective autonomous Abu Dhabi Police vehicle will be equipped with the latest technological advancements, including smart technologies, generative artificial intelligence, and computer vision. These systems will enable the vehicle to process voice, data, and video inputs, monitor criminal activities with sophisticated technologies, recognise faces, and read vehicle licence plates. The system is capable of remote diagnostics, maintenance, and fleet management.
The patrol has been designed to enable safe and undamaged crossing of waterways, while maintaining optimal functionality. When operated in electric mode, the vehicle has an exceptionally low acoustic footprint, allowing for silent and covert operations. This is made possible by a hybrid gasoline/battery engine, which provides power for the vehicle's electric motors.
