The Ras Al Khaimah Police, represented by the Criminal Investigation Department of the General Department of Police Operations, were able to arrest an Asian man, who had perpetrated a series of vehicle burglaries across the emirate in a relatively short span of time.
The perpetrator gained access to the vehicles by breaking their windows and disguising himself behind a mask, presumably with the intention of concealing his identity.
Major General Ali Abdullah Bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of Ras Al Khaimah Police, commended the vigilance of the men of the General Department of Police Operations, which facilitated the expeditious apprehension of the masked perpetrator who had stolen the contents of vehicles. The perpetrator was an Asian national in his thirties.
Brigadier Tariq Mohammed Bin Saif, Director General of Police Operations at Ras Al Khaimah Police, explained that a multiple reports were received by the pertinent authorities within the command concerning an unidentified individual donning a mask who was purportedly perpetrating the theft of vehicle contents by breaking the windows of several vehicles in several locations within the emirate. Additionally, a multitude of videos and images of the stolen vehicles were disseminated across social media platforms, he added.
He further stated that a competent team from the Criminal Investigation Department was promptly constituted and a comprehensive work plan was devised, whereby all requisite evidence was gathered and the search for the perpetrator initiated until these endeavours were ultimately successful, resulting in the identification of the perpetrator and the recovery of the stolen items.
The accused admitted during police questioning to breaking the windows of the vehicles and stealing their contents. The case is now being referred to the Public Prosecution to conclude the legal proceedings. Additionally, the individual responsible for publishing and sharing the clips and images of the stolen vehicles has also been apprehended and detained. Furthermore, the individual in question is also being referred to the Public Prosecution.
The public is being urged to refrain from publishing and disseminating such material in order to prevent any adverse effects on the investigation and legal proceedings, and to avoid the perpetrators taking the necessary precautions that could impede their apprehension.
Article 52 of the Anti-Rumours and Cybercrimes Law stipulates that any individual who utilises the information network or any information technology means to disseminate, publish, republish, circulate or recirculate false information, data, reports or rumours that are false, malicious, misleading or contradictory to officially announced information shall be subject to legal penalties. Furthermore, any individual who disseminates incendiary rhetoric with the intention of inciting public unrest, compromising public security, instilling fear among the populace, or inflicting detriment to the public interest, national economy, public order, or public health shall be subject to a minimum imprisonment term of one year and a minimum fine of Dhs100,000.
