A Malaysian woman, who dedicated six years to caring for her bedridden husband, was left heartbroken after he divorced her and quickly remarried following his recovery, Express Tribune reported on Monday.
Nurul Syazwani, who married the man in 2016, served as his primary caregiver after he suffered a debilitating car accident two years into their marriage, which left him incapacitated for six years.
During this time, Syazwani provided unwavering support, handling daily tasks like feeding him through a nasogastric tube, changing his diapers, and assisting with bathing.
Despite her dedication, the man divorced her after regaining his health and remarried another woman just one week after the separation, prompting a wave of criticism from netizens who labelled him “ungrateful and heartless.”
In 2019, Syazwani began documenting her caregiving journey on social media, gaining over 32,000 followers who supported her devotion.
Reflecting on her experience, she described her initial fears and the relentless daily responsibilities she undertook, often with assistance from her family.
While Syazwani graciously congratulated her ex-husband on his new marriage, her story has gone viral, with many condemning her ex-husband's actions and calling for greater recognition of caregivers’ sacrifices.
