UAE’s digital embrace key factor in success

For a nation to be happy, it has to be smart. And the UAE knows this best. The digital transformation of most aspects of life in the country sends an amazing and positive feeling.

And now, the UAE is set to host the world’s foremost artificial intelligence summit to empower global dialogue on the future of government, business and society.

It is exciting to note that  ‘Ai Everything,’ slated to take place between April 30 and May 1 in Dubai, will bring together world leaders to define the underlying pillars of governance, business and society — augmenting the world’s happiness.

The UAE has undoubtedly emerged as a global testbed for AI innovation and the event will help look at ways to create new vital markets that unlock high economic value for a sector that is expected to contribute $320 billion to the Middle East economy by 2030.

The country has embarked on continuous upgradation at various levels of governance, keeping pace with ever-changing technology.

On Sunday, the Ministry of Health and Prevention, MoHAP, launched an online portal for visiting medical consultants. The portal will assist consultants by providing access to patient information, hospital departments, and other critical information needed to treat patients.

The online platform where all involved stakeholders can save time can help achieve a better quality of service in compliance with full organisational requirements.

Last month, MoHAP had launched the Robotic Surgeries Programme in Gynaecology and Obstetrics. The achievement is the first-of-its-kind across the UAE.

Dr Zaki Al Muzaki, Head of Chest and Vascular Surgery and Robot Surgery Program at MoHAP, made it clear that the launch came in the wake of the successful use of the robot in heart surgeries, noting the fast-growing use of robots and AI in modern medicine.

It may be recalled that Sheikh Khalifa Medical City earlier developed its technological systems to accelerate its pharmaceutical services to patients, by launching the first smart pharmacy in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

SKMC Smart Pharmacy, the largest pharmacy in the emirate, accelerates patients’ drug dispensation processes, ensuring drug safety and efficiency via artificial intelligence, AI, technologies. It relies on a smart robot to prepare, dispense and control medicines.

On another front, The Roads and Transport Authority, RTA, has integrated a robot-operated vehicle registration plate maker in Dubai. The fully-automated machine can produce 33,000 plates per day. It applies the fourth industrial revolution, 4IR, technologies and artificial intelligence applications to print registration plates without any human intervention.

There will be a noticeable difference in the output. Each manufacturing unit can produce 350 to 700 plates per hour (one plate per 15 seconds). The machine can automatically print six different types of plates at a time, with a zero-margin error rate. This is a marked difference from the older systems, which could only produce 3,000 plates per day or take two minutes to print out one registration plate.

When the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and GE Power, launched the Predix Asset Performance Management application at the 970 megawatts (MW) L1 power station last week, it marked the first digital transformation of a power plant by GE Power in the UAE.

With an ever-growing list of new projects, the UAE remains a shining star among nations when it comes to use of smart technology.
