The creative writing session by authors Ruth Paul and Juliette MacIver at Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival must have been very interesting (“NZ authors give tips on creativity,” April 20, Gulf Today).
The way they develop cues from daily life into resourceful reading material for children got me abuzz. I only read the report in your daily and it got me excited. Imagine how engrossing it must have been for the kids who attended the workshop. I enjoyed the insight given by MacIver on how she goes about inventing ‘fantastical beasts’.
Children have a fertile imagination and given the right inputs they can be very creative. Parents must take the opportunity to send their kids to the festival. Many of my students have been frequenting the festival and say that they have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It is indeed more than book exhibition and has developed into an integrated event that contributes to enriching children’s creativity.
