Dubai Cares initiative of setting up a school for the underprivileged in Malawi is a noble gesture. Education is a vital component necessary for the uplifting of the marginalised and so UAE’s drive to do so in Malawi is bound to reap rich dividends in the years to come (“13 UAE volunteers spend a week in Malawi village,” June 24, Gulf Today).
An exercise of this nature enriches the lives of both the recipients and the people involved. The “Volunteer Globally,” group members who set the foundation of a new primary school, also returned with rich experiences.
I was particularly moved by what Rita Sanna had to say. “While I was in Malawi participating in the school-building mission, I discovered that there is nothing more rewarding than donating a smile and making someone happy.” What an experience it must have been for her, not forgetting the rest. Bringing a smile to the faces of the disadvantaged is a great privilege. I know of this because I was involved in something similar in my home country, India.
I wish all success to the project in Malawi.
