It is really sad news that many people were killed during the monsoon rains in eastern Myanmar (“Myanmar landslide kills 34, scores missing,” Aug.10, Gulf Today).
According to an official, the death toll from a landslide triggered by monsoon rains in eastern Myanmar rose to 34. Scores are missing.
“We found 34 dead, and the search for dead bodies is still ongoing,” said Local Administrator Myo Min Tun. Officials believe that more than 80 people could still be missing.
Search and rescue teams worked through the night trying to find survivors and recover bodies from the deep sludge. Rescue workers carried the body of a landslide victim in Paung township, Mon state, on Saturday.
I hope the people and the government of Myanmar cope with the natural disaster soon.
