Excitement is building in the run up to the Academy Awards with less than a week to go until the big day. This week we are taking a look back at those special actors who have managed to win more than one Oscar during their careers.
The super talented Hilary Swank won Best Actress twice in the space of five years. In 1999, she won for her role as a transgender teen in Boys Don’t Cry and then again for her role as a boxer in Clint Eastwood’s Million Dollar Baby in 2004. Interestingly, before beginning shooting Boys Don’t Cry, Swank had just been written out of the popular TV show Beverly Hills, 90210 and was convinced she would never make it as an actor.
The immensely talented and popular Tom Hanks has already won two Oscars and has received a total of six nominations during his career. Hanks won Best Actor two years in a row, in 1994 for Philadelphia and in 1995 for Forest Gump. Hanks could be adding another golden statue to his collection next week if he wins Best Supporting Actor for his role in A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood.
Denzel Washington, Cate Blanchett, Jessica Lange, Robert De Niro and the legendary Jack Nicholson are all part of this elite club of multiple award winners. It says a lot about their talent and the consistency of their work. I am sure there are more great things to come from many of them.
