Dubai needs little introduction to a global traveller. The emirate is one of the top tourist destinations and the first point of entry is of course the airport. That the Dubai airport retained its position as the world’s number one hub for international passengers for the sixth consecutive year only goes to prove the high standard of service and infrastructure that is in place (“Dubai Airport remains world’s busiest for international travelers,” Feb.5, Gulf Today).
It is literally a breeze when it comes to navigating through the Dubai international airport. I have been travelling through Dubai for over a decade now. And I have seen it advance exponentially in terms of the facilities, services, shopping and allied services over the years. Today its state-of-the-art facilities has placed it among the world’s best.
Apart from the smart initiatives which make a huge difference in terms of time management, the prompt service is a big boon for travelers who crisscross through Dubai to international destinations. Your report stated that due to DXB’s advanced operations centre which uses real time information from more than 50 systems across the facility, the wait times were reduced by 15 per cent. Of course smart gates have greatly helped speed customers through passport control.
The year gone by posed a host of problems like the worldwide grounding of Boeing 737 Max aircrafts which played havoc with the schedules of frequent fliers. Besides that, one of the runways was shut down for a month and a half and yet Dubai peaked. The airport authorities and the managment deserve praise. Keep it up, DXB.
