Britain is Britain —the noun is synonymous with racism, sexism and colonial superiority. And it’s such a big lesson, what Harry and Meghan are doing, or rather their decision to choose freedom over the misery that was bestowed upon them not only by the horrid British media, but also from the tight clutch that the monarchy has over them (“Britain’s colonial past played a part in the couple’s decision,” Mar.11, Gulf Today).
Harry’s manner of conducting his life and his life decisions have been noteworthy because they veer away from what a prince is mandated to do, in his case, by the monarchy and by the British media.
Opening up about mental health, the loss of his mother, marrying a girl of colour and now, choosing to break away from the monarchy. Love, life and freedom have meaning for him than titles and submissive loyalty. Sure, there is a lot of loyalty, but it is directed towards Meghan and his little family.
It’s hard to remove oneself from the comforts of a royal life when you have known nothing but royalty all your life. And therefore, he deserves to be applauded for standing by his family.
