It is time to show unity around the world instead of blaming each other (“World Health Organisation urges virus unity after Trump attack,” April 10, Gulf Today).
US President Donald Trump is a top leader of the only superpower country in the world, so it is important for him to take the lead and encourage solidarity. The new coronavirus, which first appeared in China in December, has gone on to kill more than 100,000 people, while more than 1.4 million people have tested positive.
After blaming China for present deadly coronavirus situation around the world, the leader of the superpower country attacked on the World Health Organisation for its role in handling the situation.
Recently, blaming Director-general of World Health Organisation, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Trump said: “The WHO really blew it. For some reason, funded largely by the United States, yet very China centric. We will be giving that a good look. Fortunately I rejected their advice on keeping our borders open to China early on. Why did they give us such a faulty recommendation?”
Whatever the background, the present moment calls for global solidarityand institutions and countries need to work unitedly for the sake of mankind. I know it so painful and hard phase of our lives, but I also believe that during such testing times, we have to work together to face the powerful challenge of coronavirus COVID-19 that the world is facing.
