I know you are sick to death of hearing the word coronavirus, as are we; but the show must go on in all aspects of life including Hollywood and the award shows. This week we are taking a look at some of the best moments from the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards which took place virtually with host Jimmy Kimmel in an empty Staples Center and all the stars watching from their homes.
One of the biggest achievements of the night went to the comedy show “Schitt’s Creek.” The show made a record-setting comedy sweep by basically winning every major award it was nominated for. Lead actress went to Catherine O’Hara, lead actor went to Eugene Levy, supporting actor went to Dan Levy, supporting actress went to Annie Murphy, writing went to Dan Levy, directing went to both Dan Levy and Andrew Cividino. Talk about a sweep; the cast must have been ecstatic as they tuned in from their private watch party in Toronto, Canada.
Another major achievement of the night went to the legendary Regina King who won lead actress for her role in “Watchmen,” bringing her to a tie with screen icon Alfre Woodard for the most Emmys won by a Black performer. Twenty-four-year-old Zendaya became the youngest performer ever to win the Emmy for lead actress in a drama series. She beat some pretty big names like Jennifer Aniston and Laura Linley. She was clearly shocked when her name was announced as she watched with a group of teary-eyed supporters. She wore a beautiful black and white polka-dot skirt with a crystal bandeau top.
The world is adapting to the restrictions of this horrible virus. People need to just find a different way of doing things. The main thing is we do not let our guards down just because places are open again. Keep the masks on people; they are saving our lives.
