Nice article about how people with speech impediment of stuttering can look to Biden to be a role model and inspirational (“Don’t treat those who stammer like the virus,” Oct. 26, Gulf Today).
When I began to read the article I thought it was going to be about how masks are a hindrance towards lip reading and how peoples who have hearing challenges are finding difficulty to communicate.
However this isn’t about that. It has also got to do with the ridicule people face for their stutter. The fact that Biden was ridiculed by his classmate and also by a figure of authority, and an adult, says a lot about how even adults handle the situation wrongly.
Adults are meant to take care of littles. And to give comfort. They aren’t meant to making fun of somebody with an issue that they cannot manage.
And so, it’s not about speech impediment as much as it is a about how to give people with speech impediment the encouragement and support they need to talk comfortably.
