Kerala is known as the most literate state in India. They seemed to have proved it in the 2019 elections when they gave CPI-M a smooth majority and now, in the zilla panchayat elections as well (“Girl student sworn in as India’s youngest mayor of Kerala capital,” Dec. 28, Gulf Today).
However, besides choosing good elected representatives, they have added another feather in that direction by electing a 21 year old girl as the mayor.
The future belongs to the youngsters as reiterated by Greta Thunberg when she striked and challenged the leaders to make policies against climate change and environmental destruction. She said that the adults of today were destroying her future and that of the planet.
Thus, by electing a youngster as the mayor, the Keralites have given the reins in the hands of the young, to make policies and decisions to save the land. Out with the old and corrupt. In with the raring and the young.
