Historic visit

This refers to the report, “Let arms go silent and fight corruption: Pope” (March 6). The long-awaited historic visit to Iraq by a Pope is a ground-breaking one not only to the Iraqi people but to the entire region and the world as well. Pope Francis took a risky step by going to Iraq considering the security reasons in that country.

Though one of the main objectives of his visit is to console the isolated Christian community who are threatened and attacked by the radical elements in Iraq, the entire Iraqi people will get an opportunity in the papal visit to seek peace and unity among them. The people of Iraq, mainly the minority Christians, have suffered a lot at the hands of the extremists. This is a great time for them to forget the past and find love and peace among them.

Let us hope this visit by the Pope paves the way for eternal peace and unity not only in Iraq but the entire region as well.
