Sharjah Police raise the safety banner very high

The statement of Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police, that the UAE’s security system has significantly progressed over the past 50 years is truly not only noteworthy but praiseworthy too. The UAE rates extremely high on the safety agenda. The level of safety can be gauged from the fact that you can walk the streets of the country late in the night and not be mugged or attacked, something that is taken for granted and feared in a lot of other countries. Safety and security have been part of the key foundation of the country since the establishment of the UAE by the late Sheikh ZayedBin Sultan Al Nahyan and the founding fathers.

Major General Al Shamsi stressed that the Ministry of Interior (MOI), led by Lt. General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, has established a clear strategy in line with the national vision to make the UAE among the safest countries in the world.

The UAE Cabinet has set indexes consistent with the national agenda and comprising five pillars, which are “feeling of safety,” “fast response,” “death rate on highways,” “alarming reports,” “dependency on security” and “reliability of security and police services with businesses.”

The Ministry of Interior has registered distinguished achievements, becoming an international model of police leadership.

Sharjah, along with Abu Dhabi and Dubai, was awarded advanced global ranking by a foreign institution that is in line with the country’s vision to lead in the areas of safety and security, which is the outcome of the initiatives and projects launched by the ministry and police leaders.

The Sharjah Police have shown an amazing readiness for all future challenges and opportunities. Keeping this in mind, they launched the project, titled, “Foreseeing the Future of Security in Sharjah until 2030.”

The Sharjah Police are also focusing on the future of cybersecurity, and the future of correctional facilities and inmate rehabilitation in particular, among other things.

They have intensified the number of patrols and overall security presence, which reduced the crime rate, and have even resorted to the use of artificial intelligence to boost safety and security using drones.

The Sharjah Police are constantly on the lookout for any sign of untoward activity through its myriad surveillance cameras. The total number of surveillance cameras in the city is 11,304, including 500 analytical surveillance cameras, 750 cameras that detect vehicle licence plates, and 10,054 early alarm warning cameras.

It is not just in the realm of security that the Sharjah Police have been doing a commendable job. They have also implemented appropriate precautionary measures to curb the spread of the virus in all departments that involve direct contact with people. Moreover, the team’s executive committee has adopted a special protocol that covers all local public and private authorities, which determines all the preventive procedures to be followed.

In December, the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry, SCCI, in cooperation with Sharjah Police, announced the launch of community awareness campaign about the security of the facilities in Sharjah’s industrial zones, under the theme “Your business safety is a key to its flourishment”.

The Sharjah Police’s Traffic and Patrols Department have launched their electronic campaign under the title ‘Our Goal is Your Safety’, aimed at enhancing the traffic safety measures among motorists.

That Sharjah is ranked sixth globally in terms of the safest cities in the world with a rate of 83.5 percent is a milestone that is very heartening, and which we hope will continue to steer the emirate into a haven of bliss and comfort, enhancing its appeal even more for its residents.
